Lab Technician Microbiology
The job and our company
Obulytix develops Precision Lysin Therapeutics (PLTs), a groundbreaking new class of enzyme-based antibiotics to combat the ongoing antimicrobial resistance crisis. Join us in our mission to provide concrete solutions to this global challenge and save the lives of countless patients.
As Lab Technician Microbiology, you will execute experiments and capture data from microbiology-related assays (e.g., bacterial killing assays, MICs), contribute to the development and setup of new assays, and support general lab operations. Experience with working in BSL2 and an interest in microbiology, antibiotics, and data processing are strong assets. You will be part of a collaborative team of scientists and technicians reporting into our Scientist Preclinical microbiology. This is a full-time, on-site role at our research centre in Ghent.
Obulytix is a preclinical stage biotech, providing an exciting and dynamic environment where growth opportunities abound. As an employee in a small and enthusiastic team, you are not just a number. We are supported by corporate and venture capital and focused on building the best possible team culture from our home base in Ghent – one of Belgium’s foremost biotech clusters.
Responsibilities
Work safely and consistently in a BSL2 laboratory environment, following biosafety and biosecurity guidelines.
Perform microbiological assays including bacterial killing assays, growth inhibition assays, MIC testing, and other phenotypic characterization experiments for PLT related assays.
Accurately capture and organize experimental data, ensuring data integrity.
Assist in the development, optimization, and setup of new microbiology related assays to support the PLT discovery pipeline.
Collaborate closely with Scientists and Technicians from Microbiology, Protein Science, and Molecular Biology to ensure smooth assay execution and data flow.
Support routine lab duties such as media preparations, equipment maintenance, and stock management.
Contribute to drafting, updating, and improving SOPs and work instructions.
Proactively identify technical workflow improvement opportunities, assay bottlenecks, or experimental issues.
Work independently to execute and document experiments.
Requirements
BSc in Biomedical Laboratory Technology or equivalent.
At least 2 years’ practical laboratory experience gained in industry or through an internship, thesis research, or previous technician roles within a BSL2 environment (or comparable).
You are accurate, well-organized, and able to work effectively in a dynamic environment.
You demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility and ownership in your work.
You are a reliable team player who enjoys working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
You are enthusiastic about microbiology, antimicrobial research, and working with novel protein-based antibiotics.
Interest in data processing, digital record keeping, or tools such as Benchling is considered a plus.
We offer
An indefinite-term full-time employment contract.
A stimulating environment with the opportunity to be part of an enthusiastic team with an entrepreneurial mindset.
Support and attention for your personal and professional development.
